Eyelashes Photoshop & GIMP Brushes

Category: Brushes | Tags: , , , ,

A set of Photoshop & GIMP brushes composed of various shapes of eyelashes.

I’ve seen a few other brush sets out there for this kind of thing, but they all seemed to be of closed eyes, or the basic shape of fake eyelashes when they’re in the case. These are made up of mostly open eyes, and most were taken straight on (front view). There’s a few closed, a few lower lashes, one or two from a side-ish view, and a few sets of funky/wild eyelashes. It includes both left and right eyes, for ease of use. They average about 900 pixels in size.

Eyelashes Brushes

This set was requested at one point or another, and I finally got around to buying some fake eyelashes and putting them on for some pictures. The shape may need to be adjusted slightly, depending on your model’s eye shape, but I’ve found that they work pretty well on most eye shapes without needing much. Enjoy!

Programs: Photoshop 7+, Photoshop Elements 2+, Gimp 2.2.6+
Brushes: 34 (18 unique)
Size: 3.04MB

Tip:

So, these you’ll want to change the shape of these so that they fit the eye perfectly, right? Here’s how to do it!

  • In your layers window, click on “Create a New Layer” to do just that.
  • Now, on that new layer, click and use the eyelash brush of your choice. Get it as close to the size and shape as you can.
  • On the top menu, go under Edit > Transform. There are several choices now for you, depending on what you need to choose. Resize will, of course, help you resize the eyelashes a bit. Rotate will do just that, rotating the eyelashes so that they fit the right angle on the eye. Distort is another one you may want to use, as it will change the “orientation” of the brush so that it helps fit the eye better. And last, but definitely not least, is Warp – and this one you will only have from Photoshop CS or CS2 onward. Warp will help you so that you can get the shape and curvature of the eyelashes just right… but be careful using it. If you use it TOO much, you can make the eyelashes become too smudgy looking. I use Distort to shape it for the most part, and then Warp to fix any small fixes after that.
  • That’s it! Make sure to make a new layer again and do the same thing when you go to add the eyelashes for the other eye. Only ONE set of eyelashes should be on each layer, or else you’ll find it too hard to fit them both perfectly.

  8. lucy

how do i add the lash to photoshop and then to my picture?

  9. Lucy: If you follow the links in the sidebar that explain how to install and use brushes, then that’ll explain it. Or, here’s a direct link: http://www.obsidiandawn.com/installing-photoshop-brushes-tutorial

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks, everyone :)

  10. sarah

when i unzip my file..it stays as a JPG file..not ABR??

  11. Sarah: Then you are downloading the image pack and not the brushes. Click on the first link, the one that says “DOWNLOAD THE BRUSHES” – that’s what you want. Maybe just a mis-click?

  12. oli

If my portret is not stright, it is possible to change the position of the brush???

  13. Oli: Yep. Check out the brush tip in this blog entry:

    http://www.obsidiandawn.com/swirl-parts-photoshop-gimp-brushes

That’s the most efficient way of switching the position of a brush. Good luck!

  14. Jess

Thank u for the brushes, they work like a dream and look great. Highly recommended.

  15. Kiana

how do you download all of them? cuz when i click download brushes, only one comes up

  16. you are downloading a zipped abr file that contains all of the brushes. Check out the sidebar link on installing brushes for installation instructions.

  21. Melody

I’m trying to download this for The Gimp… So. I unzipped it, but I can’t open it because there isn’t a file that supports it… I can’t open it with GIMP for some reason, and nothing else reads it. Help please? :D

  23. soundarya

  24. guadalupe

after download the brushes and place it on the brushes folder i colse the folder and open photoshop and i cant see the brushes

  25. Yerr

So, the file is a ZIP file.
How would we trasfer that to an ABR?

  26. Yerr

    Actually, nevermind.
    Thanks for the brushes.
    I absolutely love it.

  27. guadalupe

yes i did were do i download the eyelash shape?

  28. guadalupe

    i mean the image

  29. @guadalupe: right where it says “DOWNLOAD THE IMAGE PACK”

I have tutorials and an FAQ that explains ALL of this, so please feel free to read those for your answer. They’re all in the sidebar on the right.

  30. olga

i have corel photo shop pro x2, and i have been trying for the last hour to get these eyelashes into my photoshop, please help me. its not working for me.

  31. @olga: I’ve never heard of Photoshop Pro. Are you sure you don’t have Paint Shop Pro? Because these weren’t made to be used in PSP (Paint Shop Pro). You will have to download the image pack and make them into brushes yourself. Sorry!

  32. FynaLuna

    that’s charming..
    I love them.
    thanks.

  33. Sam

Thanks for the brushes, they are really cool!

  34. kaya--xd

I’m not sure if this could work for Photoshop Elements 6 because I can’t seem to use it. Is it because I don’t have the GIMP application? I downloaded it and placed it in my “Programme Files” and I’ve also extracted it but when I start the application, there’s no eyelash brushes there. Can you please help me? Please email me at kaya–xd@hotmail.com. Thanks very much and sorry for the inconvenience.

  35. @kaya–xd: No problem, Kaya! What you need to do first is unzip the file. You can find a tutorial on it in my sidebar, or here: http://www.obsidiandawn.com/how-to-unzip-a-file

Once it’s unzipped, follow this tutorial (also in the sidebar): http://www.obsidiandawn.com/installing-photoshop-brushes-tutorial

It will definitely work in Photoshop Elements 6, though! So just make sure you’re unzipping it and placing it into the right directory ( Program Files > Photoshop > Presets > Brushes )

Good luck, and let me know if you have any further problems!

  36. kaya--xd

=D yipee! Thx so much! I wanted to give up at first because I can’t seem to understand but I figured it out in the end! THANKS ALOT! I WILL DEFINITELY TELL ALL MY FRIENDS TO DOWNLOAD YOUR BRUSHES!

  37. Joanne

thank you very much for the brushes, lovely eyelashes!

  38. seleneyue

thankyou so much for these! I was looking for eyelash brushes I could use as transmaps for 3d applications. These look perfect.

    Bernard

  46. francesca

    this brushes works with cs2?

  47. Dianna

    i have gimp2
    when i downloaded these lashes
and then i tried clicking on it
but it says error and it failed to work
    how do i fix this?

  48. @francesca: Yep. All of my brushes work with Photoshop 7 and higher, including CS2 (which is what I use them in all the time).

    Enjoy!

@Dianna: Are you unzipping the file? Check out my sidebar for a link that explains how to unzip the file… and there’s another right below it that explains how to install them.

You don’t actually use brush files by clicking on the file. You open GIMP and load them from in there.

  49. amber

    egt geweldige wimper brushes…

  50. ravimorey

thanks for the lovely set of brushes

  51. Beautiful job with the lashes brush. I look forward to testing them out :)

  52. Adnaks

Many Thanks for this great work. It was a quiet a tiring task to create eye lashes. A terrific job done. Again a special thanks to the creator.

  53. orpah

thank you very much! i’ve just seen this, i’m not using it still because i’m still downloading! thank you very much! you made everything in photoshop very easy!

  54. Anne

when i double click my icon on my desktop, it goes straight to adobe and i keep getting the message…could not complete your request it is not the right kind of file…. i also get this happening when i try to de-zip it. Your lightening brushes worked fine (there brill Thanks), but i cannot get any other brushes, please try and help me solve this. Great site. Thank you.

  55. @Anne: It sounds like it thinks you’re clicking on an ABR file, not a ZIP file. Are you sure you haven’t unzipped it already? That’s what happens when you try to “open” an ABR file – it opens Photoshop and then does nothing. You have to load them into the correct directory in Photoshop for them to show up – check out my tutorial on installing brushes in my sidebar, that should help. :)

  56. Alexx

Hii i am trying to download this cuz i love it
But wen i download it and double click it to put it onto Adobe CS4
    it doesnt let me?!
i only have one eyelash brush in there,
and i dont no whether that was there befor – Please someone help me x

  57. @Alexx: Are you unzipping it? Placing it into your Presets > Brushes folder? I have a link in my sidebar that explains how to install brushes, so make sure you’re following that. If you’re still having trouble, let me know!

BTW, the file for these will be called “SS-Eyelashes” – so that’s what you’re looking for to load. If it doesn’t say that, then they were someone else’s brushes. :)

  58. chezzy12345

Heyy guys iv always wanted a photo edited but could never do one i tried but i have no clue in what im doin :( could someone please edit a picture for me it would mean alot

    manyy thanks delaney x

  59. Tiffany

These brushes are amazing!! Thanks soo much for all of them :]

  60. xplicitmami

    will these work for cs2

  61. Kimberley

    Thankyou soooo much!

  62. @xplicitmami: Yep! All of my brushes will. When it says they’re for Photoshop 7+, that means they’ll work in any Photoshop that came out since 7, including all of the CS’s. Enjoy!

  63. anna

    thank you very much!!1

  64. Amber

when i click on download the brushes it says Address Not Found

Firefox can’t find the server at odbrushes.s3.amazonaws.com
The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.

    * Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. “ww.mozilla.org” instead of “www.mozilla.org”)
    * Are you certain this domain address exists? Its registration may have expired.
    * Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection and DNS server settings.
    * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

  65. @Amber: Hmm. Well, either that was a temporary problem with my file storage, or there is some setting in your browser that is preventing you from being able to download it. Check it again, and see if you’re getting the same error. If you’re not, great! If you are, let me know and I’ll email it to you if you have an email account that will accept a file that large. You could also tinker with your browser’s settings, if you’re familiar with how to do that. For some reason, it’s blocking either obsidiandawn.com (the script that redirects to the file) or amazonaws.com (where my files are stored).

Sounds like it was a temporary problem to me, and should be resolved. Let me know!

  66. Beatrice

Hello..I downloaded this brushes..i’ve unzipped them..but I can’t see them in photoshop.I use photoshop CS2.Can you please tell me what’s the problem? I need them badly! :(.I also downloaded some shapes..and I see them in photoshop, but the brushes no.so PLEASE help! :(

  67. @Beatrice: Did you put them into the right directory? If so, close and re-open Photoshop. That’s the only problem I can think of, as long as theyr’e unzipped and in the right directory. But if you install them with PS open, they won’t show up directly until the NEXT time you open it.

Also, if that doesn’t work, you can still load these brushes by choosing “Replace Brushes” and then navigating to the ABR file and load it that way.

    Hope this helps!

  68. DanoBoBano

I have photoshop 7.0 and none of these eyelashes work or appear on my photoshop, what do i do!??? PLZ I NEED HELP!

  69. @DanoBoBano: Did you follow my tutorial on installing brushes? I assure you, they DO work if you have Photoshop 7! Check out my tutorial on installing and using brushes in my sidebar, and make sure you’re unzipping them and putting them into the correct folder, etc. Let me know if you still need help after that, and what’s going wrong.

  70. hi! can ask something

how can i apply the eye lashes if my picture is a bit slant..

how can make it fit to the picture… or to the eyes

  71. poortommy

    Hey,
    I’m a Mac user, with Ps CS3

I followed your instructions best I could.
But when i downloaded it, it was already an abr. file.
So I continued anyway, dropped it in applications>ps>presets>brushes.
Then I restarted PS, opened the brushes and there was only one set of eyelashes in there…
So I started all over again, re-downloaded, but then there were NONE in there!

Please help me, I love your brushes and would love to use them in PS :)
    Thanks so much.

  72. @sweety: I’ve gotten this question so much, I’ve added the answer to the bottom of this blog post, under the “Tips” section. Check it out there! :)

@poortommy: Hmm. Well, the only thing I can think of that could be going on there is that you had the program open when you downloaded them? Make sure PS is closed, or else you’ll have to close it and re-open it. (And by “closed,” I mean closed entirely – ie, on a Mac, you’d need to go into that top menu and choose to close it, not just close the window.) I’m not sure what could be causing this to happen. If they are in the Brushes folder, they should show up within the list of your brushes, no problem. Make sure you’re looking under “SS-eyelashes” because that’s what they’re titled – not just “Eyelashes.”

Let me know if you’re still having any trouble!

  73. Lisa

thank you for the brushes. . . you can find my work here:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/8804947@N03/3379665391/

  74. poortommy

Hey, I just tried that. I shut Ps through Force Quit and re-downloaded the brushes and they still downloaded as an .abr file! Hm… Maybe, if its not too much trouble, you could email me the .zip file? I just really love these brushes!! I’ll keep trying to get it to work though, but if you have the time, my e-mail is bad_pie@hotmail.com

    Thanks heaps!!!

  75. poortommy

oh YAY! i figured it out! all i had to do was import them manually, through edit>preset manager :D

  76. Caitlin

i don t understand how to download….i download but i need some serial number… i don t now how can i downloal brushes…
    ps:sory about my english…i m from CROATIA…

  82. @yany_vory: You shouldn’t need anything to either download them or unzip them. I’m not sure what you mean. They are free for use, as long as you credit me anywhere you use them. I have instructions for installing brushes in my sidebar, if that helps!

  83. yany_vory

how to unzip them?? and where is your sidebar….
    ps:sory i don t understand….i need a little help

  84. @yany_vory: No problem! If you scroll up to the top of this (and every) page, then look on the right hand side, there are headings with links under them. One of them is “Getting Started” as a heading, with “Installing Brushes” beneath it. It will bring you to a tutorial that explains how to unzip them and install them. However, here’s a direct link. :)

  90. Julie

    Thank you:)
I have a little problem though, I have GIMP 2.6.5, and on the edit tab thingy, there’s no ‘transform’ choice.
Can you please help me with that?
    ;]

  91. I’m afraid I have not used GIMP in my life. I KNOW they have a comparable tool, but I have not a clue what it is, sorry! You could probably do a Google search for “GIMP resize” or “GIMP transform” and it should be able to help you!

Sorry that I couldn’t help you out more. :(

  92. sabb

    these brushes work wonderfully. thanks!

  93. Morgan

hello, i am new to photoshop elements 7.0 and have just recently bought it. i have been toying around with it for days, and watching youtube videos, when i came along your site. it seems people prefer it, and i love your brushes, i have tried downloading several packages many times, but every time i go into my photoshop to get the brush, they don’t appear, and i have followed all f your steps to get the file.
the documents show up whenever i go to the start menu, then my documents, and go into the correct file, however; when i start photoshop and try to access the file from that location, it’s like they aren’t even saved. please help me

  94. @Morgan: Well, I’m not all that versed in Photoshop Elements compared to Photoshop. However, it sounds like you may not be unzipping the file? Or not putting them into the right place.

So, 1. make sure that the file is an ABR file. If it’s still a ZIP, unzip it first (I have a tutorial for how in my sidebar). 2. Make sure that you’re putting the ABR file into the Photoshop > Presets > Brushes folder.

That should be ALL you have to do for the brushes to show up. If they’re not showing up, there’s another way to load them. And I”m going to describe how to do it in Photoshop, but in Photoshop Elements it should be almost exactly the same.

Save the brushes on your desktop, so they’re easy to find. Make sure they’re unzipped. Click on the little arrow to the right of the brush you have currently loaded, up just below your top menu to open the “brush preset picker.” From there, click on the small arrow on the upper right of that window that popped up. This is where you usually find and load brushes (or one place to). Instead of choosing a brush set, choose “Load Brushes” or “Replace Brushes” – then look for the file on your desktop. If THAT doesn’t work, then it was a bad download or there’s something wrong somewhere with a setting in your Photoshop, and I’m not sure what to tell you.

    Good luck!

  95. mamark

    darn !
this brushes ARE A BUNCH OF HELP !
    thanks a lot !
    keep it up :)

    looking for more :D

  96. Lilac

My WinZip won’t let me open ABR files, do you know how it can?

  97. @Lilac: Once it’s an ABR, it’s already unzipped. It must have done it as it downloaded it. :) Now just put the file into your Photoshop > Presets > Brushes folder, and you’re good to go! I have more installation instructions in my sidebar if you need it.

  98. ME podrias mandar actualizaciones a mi e-mail??

  125. Igor

    Hello.
Just making my frst steps in Gimp. I tried to rotate the euelash to fit the eye on the photo, but it says that the brush is (read only) and I cant edit it. Tried to make a new one but the “duplicate bruch” option is grayed out too. help!! :)

  126. @Igor: Hmm, I’m afraid I’m not a GIMP user and I’m not sure how to get around that! I’m sorry!

But I did some searching, and found these explanations: http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-brush-dialog.html#gimp-brush-editor-dialog

“Duplicate Brush” is the option you’re wanting, it sounds like, but it’s grayed out? According to this, the brush will either be editable (parametric) or it will have that option enabled. So, I’m not sure what the problem could be! Maybe try refreshing the brushes? Sorry I couldn’t help more.

  127. Celly

    Thankyou :)
    These were great!

  128. Jia Qureshi

    MELODY !!!!!!!!!

Sorry that I can’t help you out, I’m not a GIMP user.

  131. omg

    OMG !
im new to it & what you just told me it dont even ay transform on mine well it does but it dont say all stuff like resize !

    HELPPP!

  132. @omg: What version of Photoshop are you using? They should all have that under transform, but only some will have Warp. Resize is kind of a staple, though! Maybe it’s Photoshop Elements? In which case, I’m not sure.

  133. ama

    thanks for this package

  134. vampiera

can you please please tell me from where can i get these eye lashes on CS3?

  135. @vampiera: When I say Photoshop 7+, that means all versions of Photoshop that came out after 7. That includes CS, CS2, CS3, CS4, etc. So you’re good to go, these will work. :)

  136. Kirstyn

HELP! I have an operating system called Linux, and I can’t figure out how to open the file, can somebody please help?!

  137. @Kirstyn: It will still work on Linux, however, you’ll need to download some kind of program that works with Linux to “extract” files that are zipped up like this one is. Do a Google search for “linux extraction program” or somesuch, and you should find several for free!

Then, read my tutorial (in the tutorials section and in my sidebar under “Getting Started”) about Installing Brushes and Unzipping the File.

    Hope this helps!

  139. @Elizabeth: Well, the next step would be to follow the link in my sidebar, under “Installing Brushes” (under the “Getting Started” heading). That’ll explain it to you step by step. :)

    i love it;x
    thankya so much.

  141. [...] add to the lashes, I downloaded a set of eyelash brushes from Obsidian Dawn. There are separate brushes for the left eye both top and bottom as well as right eye top and [...]

  142. hello

    I really need help really
bad, i’m new to all this PS stuff and i just downloaded the brushes, BUT I have a big problem on how to find and use it!! I have PS 7 and if anyone would help, i would be very grateful!! I tried the tuts on how but they dont seem to work for ME….

  143. @hello: You’ll need to be more specific about where you’re having your problem. Did you follow my tutorial, or someone else’s?

    Things to check:

Did you unzip the file? Did you put it into the right directory? (Photoshop > Presets > Brushes) Did you RESTART PHOTOSHOP after installing it if it was already open?

Let me know where you’re getting stuck, and I can help. :)

  144. Thankyou :)
    These were great!…… :)

  145. Robert G

Hi, ive Downloaded and installed the brushes ok but how does the image pack work? are they for photo shop and Gimp? there doesn’t seem to be a folder for these files.I can view the JPEG images and that’s it.

does anyone know where to put these files or how to use them.

    deniror71@yahoo.co.uk

    thanks

  146. @Robert: I explain all of this in my FAQ, if you want a longer version – however, they’re an alternative for people that can’t use the brushes. They’re the JPGs that the brushes were made out of, that’s it. So if you can use the brushes, you don’t need em. :)

  147. Thx for the brushes. Im a user of gimp so it is hard to fix stuff in it, but finally it will be funnier to work with something new in it. You should have a tutorial for “gimpers” =)

  148. I did only get one brush, and its opsidedown.. Do you know what happend? : ))

  149. I’d only get one brush, and its opside down.. Do u know what happend? : )

  150. @ingrid: Wow, now that’s an odd one. I’ve never heard of that. Are you using GIMP or Photoshop?

Photoshop, I can help you out… but GIMP I haven’t a clue about, I’m afraid.

  151. thnx! I downloaded and will use them :P

  152. Liquidate

    Thank you so much~

  153. Mai

Hi, Thanks so much! I’ve been trying to understand how to do photoshop make up and this help alot. Do you have more tutorial information about how to do a complete photoshop make like from changing hair color to eye color, putting on blushes and even making lips or eyes bigger, etc?

  154. Danielle

These brushes are fantastic! Thank you ^_^

  155. nami

i only can download the pictures one..and if i download the brush it won’t show anything like it’s not working..please help..

  156. Igor Hannover

Muito bom !! adorei ! thank you!!

  157. @nami: Do you have Photoshop or GIMP? I’ll be able to help with Photoshop more than GIMP, I must say! However, check my sidebar for the “Installing Brushes” link, make sure you’re following what it says there, and if that doesn’t fix it, let me know more specifically what’s going wrong and I can certainly help!

  158. saharah

    I did it ! :D so fantastic !

  159. Olivia

Is there a way to turn the brushes if you use GIMP? Or is that only a Photoshop thing.

  160. @Olivia: I’m not sure about the way to turn them in GIMP. I’ve never used it. I’m sure the functionality is probably there, though, given that GIMP is trying to be a free Photoshop. You could google “rotate brush gimp” and see what comes up. :) Sorry I couldn’t help more!

  161. I’m clicking my picture icon

  162. Olivia

@Stephanie- Thanks! I did find out how to do it. Kinda hard to do, but I did. :D

  163. alice

do they work on photosop adobe element 6? if then dont, pease can you make some for photoshop adobe element 6, i wod love that:D

    manny hugs alice

  164. @alice: Yes, they work in Photoshop Elements 2+, which means 6 works too! :) Enjoy!

  165. Andreaaa;

every single time i transfer it to the brushes folder it tells me i need administrative privledges do you know what this is? Id appreciate you help thank you! (:

  166. @Andreaaa: That sounds like Windows Vista. You need to be logged in under the administrator account on your computer, it sounds like it’s telling you. I’m sorry, I’m not a Vista expert by any means, so I’m not entirely sure. You could try Googling it for an answer, as well, if logging on under an admin doesn’t help.

In the meantime, you can put the files on your desktop and then run them manually using “load brushes” from the brush selection screen, then browse to the desktop and select them that way.

    Hope this helps!

  167. Anita

I do not know how to install …. I click to download the brushes and I go open photoshop but there is not eyelashes … please help me

  168. @Anita: Click on “Installing Brushes” in my sidebar for a tutorial on installing them. :)
