I assure you, they DO work in GIMP. All versions of GIMP from 2.4 and onward have the capability to use ABR files. As you can see from this quote from this page on GIMP’s website (http://www.gimp.org/release-notes/gimp-2.4.html):

Support for file formats:
* Support for Photoshop ABR brush format;

Your brushes won’t work in GIMP. I have 2.6, and they’re in .abr from the download.

I don’t have any, I’m afraid, nope. I may make a “tag” set of shapes or whatnot at some point – it’s on my list.. but I haven’t yet, sorry!
