Read my installing brushes tutorial. There’s a button on this page, next to the download button that says “How to Install?” that links to it. Or go to my tutorials section (top menu) and you can find it there. It explains where to put them, how to load them, etc.

I must be stupid or something. No matter what I do or where I put the file, it does not show up when I click on “load brushes” in Photoshop 7. I’ve tried with other brush files, and always have the same problem. What folder am I supposed to put it in?

I know, this is very late, but if you ever get anyone asking questions like this again, just tell them to find the brush directory of gimp by default. Then either click the arrow at the top of brushes dialog and press “refresh brushes” or just restart gimp (you can also do this while gimp is closed of course) Either way, the .abr can work in gimp.

@nishath: It DOES work. AS an ABR file. Follow the link in my sidebar, “Installing Brushes” – that’ll walk you through it. If those don’t work, then you’ll have to look online elsewhere – because I’ve never used GIMP, I’m afraid. You could do a search for “using photoshop brushes in gimp” or somesuch, and that should getcha what you need. But my instructions may very well work, yep. For the majority of people, they do.

well ive unzipped the file
and it keeps coming up as ss-hearts.abr
and it wont let me change the type of the file so gimp wont open it
does anyone know what i can do?

@Sarah: You don’t need to change the type of file. GIMP can use Photoshop brushes now, as long as your GIMP version is 2.2.6 or more recent. And I have a tutorial that explains how to install them, but if you know what you’re doing it’s just like installing other GIMP brushes. I know nothing about GIMP, however, so if my tutorial doesn’t help then your best bet is a Google search on “how to install photoshop brushes in gimp” :)

Hopefully the tutorial and this info helps, though!

when i download them, i open them up in winRAR and extract the folder to my desktop but it comes up on the desktop as like an unknown file type?
why is this? i’d love to have these brushes!

Hey, I have been using your Brushes for GIMP for a long time now. But i just got Windows 7…And have no idea how to get the brushes in GIMP now! Please help!
