Realistic Eyelashes and Eyeshadow in Photoshop Tutorial

This tutorial will help explain how to use my Eyelashes and Eyeshadow brushes to create realistic looking makeup effects for eyes.

Things you’ll need:

Sidenote: Buying commercial licenses is now easier and faster than ever. We’ve added a shopping cart, so that you can add licenses to your cart, then proceed to PayPal for payment. And once you’re through, you’ll be brought back to ObsidianDawn.com and be able to print out your receipt and licenses. Previously, I was sending them out manually within 24 hours of a purchase, but now they’ll be available immediately. So, MUCH easier for both of us.

You’ll probably also notice that we’ve switched the design around a bit. Most of this was to help make the site more user-friendly. Buttons with access to our terms of use and how to install the resource, etc. all right next to the download button = a lot less emails asking the same thing over and over again for moi, and easier to find answers for you all.

You can watch the video tutorial below. If you can’t see details well enough, make sure you check the settings at the bottom of the video to make sure that you’re watching the HD version (1020p is what you want – the ability to change this will show up once you hit play, in the bottom middle of the video). You can then view it full screen using the bottom rightmost button, and you should be able to see everything clearly.

Yes this tutorial was very good, but it will take me longer to get ready to go out. I was using the Smudge Tool, but this was messy and you had very little control over the strokes, and i gave up.

Do you want the credit for the brush on the picture itself, or if it’s on DA could it be in the description?

CAN YOU USE THESE BRUSHES FOR GIMP

    • Stephanie says:

Yes, but the steps in this tutorial won’t be the same. The brushes work, but the tutorial is made for Photoshop.

      • Amanda says:

Do you have a tutorial for Gimp?

        • Stephanie says:

Afraid not. Never used GIMP. I may learn it someday, but right now I’d rather be able to keep putting out resources for everyone than take the time to learn a new program. Sorry!

I’m sure it’s similar in concept, though. As long as you know how to rotate stuff, add new layers, etc in GIMP, this would be the same in concept, just not in the specifics.

thanks so much for the tutorial and for making these brushes available! I have also watched your skin painting tutorial which is the best one I’ve seen. I can’t wait to put into practice what you have shown me!
    Thanks again Stephanie

  12. Great tutorial. I’ve always had trouble with touching up around the eyes. These techniques will come in handy.

Great tutorial. It looks so simple! And the effect! I never used much make-up myself, but maybe I will start :) on my photos :)

Thank you for the great tutorial! I noticed that the eyeshadow colors (around 12:15 of the video) have a glimmery effect in the area around the inner corners of the eye — mimicking the look of shimmery eyeshadow. How did you achieve that? Or was it already present in the original photo? Your eyes are beautiful, by the way. :)

    • Stephanie says:

Hmm, I’m not really sure which glimmery effect you mean. I mean, I DO have a lighter color that I applied to that area, on the inner part of my lid. However, on the right side (the left eye), there’s also definitely a bit of shimmer there the entire video. Just the way the light’s hitting the skin, I guess.

You COULD do it, mind you. I’d suggest using my skin textures brushes for something like that, and lightening a few small random spots around the edge of the eye. Luckily, I have a video tutorial for how to use those, as well (although only a basic understanding of how the brushes should be used is shown). But playing around with them, you could definitely achieve something like that.

However, if it’s not just a single spot of lighter shimmer that you’re looking for, using a very light color on the lid and finding the right blending mode will achieve the look of a shimmery eyeshadow, as well.

      Hope this helps!
