Just a quick post to let you all know that I’ve done a review for Photoshop Support on Wacom’s newest tablet, the Intuos4.
Any of you that use tablets out there should really check out my review – and then go buy yourself an Intuos4! It’s well worth the upgrade, moreso than any other time in Intuos history, I’d say.
You can check out my Intuos4 review for Photoshop Support here!
I probably should have chosen some different brushes for my very first contest. Something with glitter or swirls, perhaps, rather than the Tech & Gears brushes. As such, I’ve not gotten nearly as many entries as I would have liked. I’ll fix that for the next contest. But, in the meantime, here’s what I’m going to do. I’ll keep the contest open for one more week, and also let you all use the Gears Transparent PNGs, as well. You can enter as many times as you like. I’ll keep the entries up through next weekend, so you must submit it by Sunday, April 12th at midnight. Read more about the Obsidian Dawn’s Tech & Gears contest here!
I just went out and bought a new iMac. I’m officially making the transition over! Sorry, Bill Gates. I’d love it if I could get away from Windows completely, but I’ll need to be using an emulator so that I can still make my brushes in Photoshop 7. Since they’re forward compatible and not backwards, I need to make them in the earliest version of Photoshop possible. I know there’s a lot of you out there that have a harder time finding PS 7 brushes, and I’m one of your only sources… so I don’t want to let anyone down! But looks like I’m going to be able to keep that up, so don’t worry! I’ll be able to start making fonts now, too… which I’m really looking forward to. EVERYONE uses fonts! And I’ve got some neat ideas, already. So, be on the lookout for some of those.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

WWWeeeelllll , I love the first contest. The gears and Tech idea is great! (Or at least I think so.) Of course I blew it by using the .png’s…… but I had great fun doing it!
Great fun!!!!!!

Jo
I received a tablet at Christmas and haven’t played with it much. It is a Genius G-Pen F610. I really don’t know much about it, yet. I thought maybe I’d tackle it. Do you have, or do you know of a site with, a tutorial for tablets in general? Once I sit down and get into it, I’ll figure it out. It would be nice to have some ‘professional’ input, as well.
Thank you,
Su
@Su Hall: Hmm, I’m afraid I don’t know many sites that have tutorials for tablets, no. When I got mine, I just picked it up and started going. However, here’s a few tips for you.
Most of it is pretty intuitive. I don’t know much about the Genius G-Pen, but if it works like most tablets, it will default so that the tablet surface corresponds to your screen. If you put your pen on the upper right of the tablet area, the cursor will show up on the upper right of your screen. That’s how you’ll want it set up 99.9% of the time, I’d say. Most tablets come with a control panel kind of program, as well, where you can change any settings that you want to.
It takes a little bit of practice to get used to the whole concept behind a tablet. That whole painting down with your hand, but looking up at the screen where it’s showing up thing just feels odd at first. But don’t let it get you down, because you’ll be using it like a pro in no time!
Best of luck with your tablet, and I’m sure you’ll become as addicted to it over time as I have to mine. :)
Thank you for responding so quickly. I appreciate the tips. I just need to put some music on and go to it. LOL
Peace to All,
Su

Thank you a lot for all the awesome work you do! Also thanks for the review on the tablet, I personally don’t have one nor would I know what to do with one as I lack talents such as drawing but I have a friend who is a very talented artist and only recently moved on to using a tablet and will probably be very interested in checking out the review! :D
